Really Awesome Teaching Samples....

Here are some amazing things that our students are achieving.....

Room 1

Room 5 (Year 5 & 6) studied Natural Phenomena looking from the angle that everything is either non-living or living, and everything that is living is either algae or animalia. As part of building understanding of the similarities between algae and animalia children discovered that all living things develop from cells and are made up of cells. Children compared animal and algae cell diagrams. In pairs, children were then given the opportunity to work with an IT expert visiting the classroom to take a closer look at algae structure (sliced corgettes, cabbage leaves etc.) using the school's proscop. Children saved the images, viewed their collection and then selected only the best images to be saved in series so that if desired a Power Pt. of the entire class' collection could be formatted with captions as a Power Pt. presentation; this later aim has not occured yet, but may do when the IT expert revisits the class during this year. One discovery that was made during this process was that the students needed a tripod to aid their handling of the proscope on high magnification - a school purchase has been made to address this need.
Students used the class inquiry model to define an animal / plant they wished to discover more about, and then carried out their research leading to the creation of their choice of text presentation with which to share their new found knowledge.

To show their understanding they created:

posters

PowerPoints

Books

and gave speeches to share the knowledge that they had gained.

Room 3 & 4 are inquiring about Transport and Transportation.
As part of the saturation they read together Mr Gumpy's Motor Car.
To draw the children in, they discussed what was happening in the story and then created the characters and the car to construct a digital story.
The next part of the saturation, involves the children actually going to see a car locally that is just like the 'Mr Gumpy' took the children and the animals for a ride in.

Room 4 (Year 1 & 2) read 'Mr Gumpy's Motor Car' together.

The students created models with plasticine, they made scenery and extras to enable them re-create the story in a box theatre.
The students then used the digital camera on a tripod to record their story.

The story was then transferred to a PowerPoint and the students added text.

Room 3 (N.E) shared together 'Mr Gumpy's Motor Car'
-the students made: models of the characters in the story, the car out of cardboard, trees, gates, mud, pond, house and backdrop.
BubbleShare: Share photos - Find great Clip Art Images.

-these photos show the students preparing the 'scenes' and
using the digital camera to record their retelling of Mr Gumpy.
